Overview
Purpose-built industrial gases depot at Ruakura Superhub under an Early Contractor Involvement Design & Build contract for Tainui Group Holdings, with Air Liquide as tenant.
This was an Early Contractor Involvement Design & Build contract. Completed within a tight five-month programme (from finalised design to handover), the project demonstrates Fosters’ capability in delivering technically demanding industrial facilities to precise sustainability and operational standards.
About the project
Air Liquide are world leaders in gases, technologies and services for industry and healthcare, operating in 60 countries. Strategically located within Ruakura Superhub, Australasia’s largest inland port and logistics hub, the new facility strengthens Air Liquide’s national supply chain and improves reliability of service across the region.
The 9,000m² development includes gas storage and loading infrastructure, a workshop, office accommodation, extensive yard slabs, tank farm foundations, carparking and landscaping. Fosters completed the design and construction of the yard slabs, warehouse and office, along with substantial concrete works including over 1,500m³ of concrete placed across multiple pours and a 400m³ tank farm foundation.
Sustainability was central to the build. Constructed using low-carbon steel and concrete, with timber-framed internal partitions. With water and energy efficiency in mind, monitored via an Energy Management System, the facility also incorporates water reuse systems. The project achieved a 5 star Green Star Design rating under Design & As Built NZv1.1.
Delivered in partnership with Tainui Group Holdings and Puna Pakihi tribal businesses – the project reflected a shared commitment to safety, quality, sustainability, and collaboration.
