Dairy Goat Co-operative
Store 8

Overview

About the project

Constructed with a steel frame, precast concrete walls, and a metal profile roof, Store 8 also featured a post-tensioned concrete slab to safely support the significant weight of powdered product—minimising the risk of cracking and subsidence over time.

Delivered during the first Covid-19 lockdown and accommodating ongoing scope changes, the Store 8 project still met all programme and budget targets.

The build took place within a live operational environment, requiring close coordination with DGC to maintain safety and minimise disruption. Clear communication, thorough planning, and strong site management ensured construction was completed efficiently, without compromising the functionality or integrity of the wider facility.

Fosters have worked alongside Dairy Goat Co-operative (DGC) for over 20 years, supporting their growth through a range of refurbishment and expansion projects.

Client testimonial

“Fosters won the tender for our project based on a good price, their reputation and their history with the Coop” said DGC Capital Projects Manager Craig Tate.

“The project was fairly complicated” he adds. “Firstly, we had construction happening within the live plant which meant the construction crew had to adhere to our strict hygiene and safety protocols, this was elevated with Covid-19 and lockdown.

“Secondly, the project was between buildings, filling a gap between stores and then filling another gap with the new administration block.”

The new builds joined other buildings together, again this was tricky as the existing buildings had different floor levels. Upgrading the main storm water drain, also part of the project, added yet another level of complexity as it ran across one of the new builds.

“Based on the project management and the quality of the final product, I have no doubt Foster was well suited to the job” says Craig.

“Fosters are highly professional, very client focused” he explains. “They helped with design solutions, managed the contractors as well as their own team, and kept everything on track against the odds.

“Their site management was impressive, particularly with the added complication of Covid. Communication was excellent.

“We have further work to do at the DGC and I would definitely want to work with Fosters again” concludes Craig. “They have a strong team, and we trust them.”

“Based on the project management and the quality of the final product, I have no doubt Fosters was well suited to the job.”
