Tauranga Eye Specialists

Overview

Design and build, plus fitout, project integrating a two-storey medical grade clinic made up of three main areas: operating theatres, consultation areas and staff facilities.

The operating theatres are serviced by adjoining clean stores, set up rooms, an autoclave room, and decontamination and disposal rooms. A reception, four consult rooms, two vision lanes and several specialist eye exam rooms made up the consultation areas. Staff facilities included offices, changing rooms and a kitchen.

About the project

Achieving a modern and aesthetically pleasing environment, features included a bespoke dual-purpose reception and refreshment area, a glazed sliding partition, and custom printed wall vinyl.

Specialist equipment and infrastructure included ceiling mounted surgical pendants in the operating theatres, operating control panels, UPS backup, a nurse call system and a medical gas system.

Managed by Foster Develop and delivered by Foster Construction (BOP), this architectural medical grade fitout required careful planning, client consultation and coordination, ensuring safety, compliance with medical standards, and a fit-for-purpose outcome.

Client testimonial

Ease of patient access and a good location were the two things that originally drew Tauranga Eye Specialists (TES) to Papamoa Junction, a property development by Foster Develop.

What TES created with Fosters is a state-of-the-art clinic that ticks all the boxes: a satellite clinic and operating theatres, seamless patient experience and the ability to cover a wider geographic area to meet the needs of the growing Bay population.

Andrew Thompson, a Director of TES, said that Fosters were “absolutely brilliant” to work with - through development, construction, and fitout.

“The process was easy and straightforward, from the first meeting through to project completion. We had a lot of meetings; those were focused and ran on time.

“Foster Develop took the time to understand what we wanted; even visiting our Park Street site to see our setup and setting to work from there.”

With the pressure of insufficient space at the Park Street site, Andrew notes TES was quite specific about what was required at Papamoa: “Good workflow, the ability to ‘passage’ patients through the clinic and provide them with a seamless experience.

“Fosters worked with the architect, suggesting things we hadn’t thought of.

“It’s hard to appreciate what a space looks like ‘on paper’. Now we are in, the overall development is fantastic.  The high-quality finish and incorporation of seemingly small details have made a real difference. Our staff and clients love it!”

Modern, high quality and patient-focused, the new Tauranga Eye Specialists’ Papamoa Clinic is state-of-the-art. Importantly, the process was stress-free.

“Having been involved with several building projects in the past I know building can be stressful” he said. “This project was enjoyable.”

“I found Fosters’ develop and construction teams to be fun and friendly, always easily accessible and an absolute pleasure to work with. They were exceptional at coordinating different contractors, keeping to budget, and delivering on time.

“I appreciate ours wasn’t an easy project in the current economic environment and I highly recommend Fosters for the expertise they added where we needed it.”
