Fosters partnered with Quintex Properties in an early contractor involvement (ECI) arrangement for this student accommodation development.
Fosters’ pre-construction team provided early input into the design of the facility, to be located in close proximity to the University of Waikato’s Tauranga campus.
About the project
The building consists of one basement level and four levels of student accommodation. There are 94 rooms in total, and a separate onsite house for the facility manager.
Due to budget and site constraints, there were many challenges that needed to be overcome to bring this project to fruition.
Design inputs included alternative structural frames, and envelope and flooring systems to reduce weight, increase GFA and eliminate the requirement for significant ground remediations.
Despite site constraints and the impact of regional Covid-19 related lockdowns, the project was managed efficiently, and the complex delivered to an exceptional quality standard.
Selwyn Street was a landmark project for Tauranga and a development Fosters are extremely proud to have been a part of.
The project was awarded GOLD at the NZ Commercial Project Awards in 2022.
