Bupa St Andrews on Delamere Road was a new retirement complex design and build project, including a 40-bed care home, 62 apartments and basement car parking for village residents.
About the project
Running ground water in the basement excavation was an initial complication; the stream had to be diverted. Then, partway through the project, Bupa made the decision to up spec - upgrading the acoustics and the finishes in both the care home and apartment complex.
Both Bupa and the Fosters team took great care to ensure the development of the Delamare Road site had minimal impact on neighbouring properties.
This project was completed on budget and handed over within the 18-month timeframe.

Although not involved in the Bupa St Andrews development from the outset, Bupa National Property Manager David Tilley notes that Fosters won the tender not only on price, but because Bupa felt comfortable working with them.

Noting that the project included some major variations, David said that Fosters quickly understood the vision for the end product and managed the changes accordingly.

I quickly developed a good understanding with site team and felt comfortable with them making decisions when I wasn’t on site, to keep the project on track.”
David felt that the biggest win for Bupa was the final product.
“The finish on the buildings exceeded our initial concept. The location was fantastic, the design was already good – it was the project management and skilled work of selected contractors that met our needs so well.
“This is reflected in the feedback we have received from our neighbours around the care home and village, telling us how well the development fits within the neighbourhood.
