The redevelopment of 586 Victoria Street was a Foster Develop project. Once the base build had been completed, Foster Construction was engaged by a number of the tenancies for the fitout portions of the works. Foster Engineering was also enlisted for the manufacture of the exterior facade.
The refurbishment consisted of a facade upgrade, seismic strengthening, new fire systems in the stairwell and lobbies to meet the building code, smoke curtains in the lifts, asbestos removal in identified areas, the installation of new lifts, power upgrades throughout, and the repainting and carpeting of common areas.
The biggest challenge faced by the team was the coordination of the refurbishment in an occupied, functional business space. The coordination of the Fosters team, subcontractors and multiple stakeholders required extensive planning and thorough communication. As the project neared completion, there were fitouts to be managed in parallel with the refurbishment works.
Despite the challenges of tight timeframes, a central city location and an occupied space, the Fosters team was able to efficiently and safely complete the refurbishment on time, at a high standard and with few defects.
“I’d definitely work with them again; their communication was excellent, and they were so approachable.”
Global professional services consultancy, GHD, has been enjoying their new Hamilton Office at 586 Victoria, fitted by Foster Maintain. The fact that the firm, full of engineers, architects, and interior designers, is thrilled with the outcome, is a tribute to Foster’s quality work and project management.
Maeve Keating, Fitout Manager for GHDWoodhead creativespaces, says they were looking to create an office space that inspires clients to work with them.
“We wanted the office to demonstrate our services and show that we’re a different kind of practice,” says Maeve. “It needed to showcase a successful project we’ve worked on, encourage collaborative work and speak of our unique approach to integrated design.”
“586 Victoria ticked a lot of boxes for us. We stripped the building back to the core, creating an industrial style which demonstrates the skill of the building’s integrated disciplines. Our engineering solutions sit proudly within, and in harmony with, considered architectural spaces.”
Foster Maintain was an easy choice for the fitout, because 586 Victoria was a Foster Develop project. Maintain were involved from the early stages of the project, demolishing the old tenancy space, and working closely with GHD’s designers on the new fitout over 12-weeks.
“Working with Foster Develop and Foster Maintain made things simple. It was good knowing they were part of the same business” continues Maeve. “I’d definitely work with them again; their communication was excellent, and they were so approachable.”
“We are really happy with the result. The standard of work is excellent, and our team love their new working space. We’ve had great comments from clients too!”
